I’m not a huge fan of yogurt. I like the garnish it makes with cucumbers and onions slathered over gyros. But plain, straight yogurt, not so much. Judging by the yogurt section of most food stores, other people must feel the same way. Rows of yogurt favored with every imaginable fruit or fruit flavored yogurt.
Enter GOAT yogurt. Smooth, creamy with a great taste. Didn’t think I was going to like it. But one bite and I was hooked. I’m not to enthused about the goat cheese I have tried. Too mooshy. But do yourself a favor. Try it once and see if the goat gets you by the horns too. So now, where ever we travel we try and find a store that carries it.
Oh yeah! I am so totally in love with Goat dairy products!! We found the Redwood Hill yogurt last Fall at our local Earthfare market, (Click here for store locator) and it is sooooo good! It quickly became a part of our morning breakfast routine, either plain or with fresh berries. It’s like the difference between eating a scoop of Ben & Jerry’s (your favorite flavor here) and a scoop of the a cheap, lowfat, sugar free, imitation artificial everything ice cream. If you are a fellow foody, you know what I mean.
As we travel, we are always on the look out for a place to find good Goat Yogurt, and it’s not always easy!! We have been known to drive Ms. Lucy miles and miles out of our way to stock up on this favorite!! – We were having trouble locating a store that carried goat yogurt in the Clermont /Orlando area and we went for about 3 wks without our breakfast treat – in desperation we bought a container of Greek yogurt – what a disappointment! It was difficult to force the stuff down and no amount of fresh fruit helped. We finally located a Publix that stocks Redwood Hill Farms Goat Yogurt nearby on that infamous tourist strip surrounding Disneyland (Orlando). Ms. Lucy bravely made her way along crowded freeways teeming with tourists who took turns swerving and crawling, guided by the hand of Cap’n Bill at the wheel, gently navigating her girth through narrow lanes in parking lots, to get to the prize.
There’s been loads of research done on the health benefits of goat milk products and I won’t bore you with all of that, because, honestly, we eat it just for the delicious taste! Redwood Hills has a great website which includes a store locator, recipes, and really cute goat pictures. Click here to check it out!
